Editorial policy
Practical guidance, with clear limits.
How to use the ideas and buying guidance on Simple Home Ideas.
What our guides provide
Simple Home Ideas publishes home organization, lighting, and small-space planning ideas. Our focus is the decision behind a purchase: the problem it solves, the measurements that affect fit, the work needed to maintain it, and when using something you already own makes more sense.
How we choose and review advice
Before a guide is published or materially updated, we check whether the idea solves a real small-home problem, whether the measurements and constraints are clear, and whether the tradeoffs are useful for a reader who may rent, share a small room, or have limited storage. We prioritize practical fit questions over decorative trends alone.
For product-led topics, our review notes consider size, clearance, installation needs, cleaning effort, visual weight, renter suitability, safety limits, and whether a lower-cost or no-purchase option should be tried first. Advice that cannot be verified from available product information is written as a planning consideration, not as a performance claim.
Advice is not a hands-on product test
Unless an article explicitly describes a documented hands-on test, treat it as editorial planning guidance rather than evidence that we purchased or tested a particular product. Category comparisons describe selection criteria, not verified performance rankings. Check the exact model, instructions, dimensions, and return terms with the manufacturer or retailer.
What counts as hands-on testing
When we publish a hands-on test, the article should identify what was tested, the space or use case, the measurements taken, the time period, the observed advantages and limitations, and any conditions that may not apply to another home. If those details are missing, the piece should not be read as a hands-on review.
Images and worked examples
Room images, including AI-generated illustrations, communicate a layout or styling idea. They do not prove that a product was tested or that a pictured installation is suitable for your home. Worked measurements and budget allocations are illustrative unless identified otherwise. Never infer load capacity, electrical suitability, or product dimensions from an image.
Buying guidance and commercial links
A useful recommendation explains both the fit and the tradeoff. Check our affiliate disclosure for how commissionable links are identified. Prices, stock, and specifications can change; the retailer's current listing and the manufacturer's instructions take precedence over an older article. A paid relationship should be disclosed where it affects the content.
Updates and older information
Home products, retailer listings, prices, and availability change. We may revise a guide when a recommendation becomes unclear, a link changes, a safety consideration needs better wording, or a reader points out a factual issue. The date on a guide reflects publication timing, not a guarantee that every linked product or specification is current.
Installation and safety limits
Our articles cannot assess your wall construction, wiring, lease restrictions, or household needs. Follow product-specific installation and anti-tip instructions. Obtain qualified help for electrical work, uncertain wall fixings, or other work beyond your experience.
Corrections and reader feedback
Send the article URL, the passage concerned, and any supporting manufacturer documentation to hello@thesimplehomeideas.com. Please identify whether the issue concerns a measurement, link, image, or factual statement so it can be checked. We do not promise a fixed response time.
